The heat that will be felt over the next few days has led Civil Protection and the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) to put the country on alert, with some areas of the country expected to feel as hot as 40 degrees. So when you go hiking, take extra care.
If you’re planning a pilgrimage to Fátima, take special care with your hydration. On these hotter days, you may feel the following signs of dehydration more intensely:
– Feeling thirsty;
– Increased heart rate;
– Reduced blood pressure;
– Reduced performance.
To reduce these effects, drink plenty of water during the ride and especially during the hottest hours. Follow these tips so that everything goes smoothly during your walk:
– Keep your bottle easily accessible to hydrate regularly;
– The water or drink should not be too cold;
– Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water, as thirst is the first sign of dehydration;
– Choose light, fresh clothes to wear on your walk.
Another aspect to take into account is the management of your walk, try to walk during the hottest hours.
